Now we're getting someplace! Our strength is in
our agricultural roots!
Agra-industry/Agra-tourism - and more dollars
stay right in our own community! I just attended
a workshop on biomass fuels. There's a whole
future we haven't even begun to mine.
Good ideas about promotion. Hope you come to our
economic development meeting on March 18th. It
will be at the site of our Chairman's business,
the Stoutridge Vineyards on Kaley Lane in
Marlboro.
Let's not throw out the baby with the bathwater.
You say forget about parks and kayak launches.
Those are also economic incubators. My husband
and I go to towns that have kayak docks. We stop
to eat and shop in those towns. Don't forget the
Hudson River is another prime conduit for
economic development.
Looking forward to your input at our meetings.

I can remember when I lived in Millbrook, NY. The reason I left is that I enjoyed being the tourist (but not in the town I live in). I love the aspects of this town being a farming community. I live in the most beautiful place ever! We have the best produce in the world. We have wineries and historic sites. Marlboro needs a well produced Tourism site. The one they have is great (don't get me wrong) but I think that with a professional firm they could reach a lot more people in a more efficient manner. I agree. Tourism is the way to go. Then all our hotels would be propsperous on a positive level (and upgrade). There are certain times of year that this could be in full swing. I think that it is a fabulous idea.
As a life long resident here where can I put a Kayak in the water ?? The Hudson ??
Where are these other docks that you visit? I am all for nature and Natural sports that
are inexpensive . I have friends that Kayak in that small river in Kingston.
You should post these meetings all over the town. Hand out flyers , make it known . The
meetings in the town hall are terrible.
Listen when your husband ran for town supervisor you where all over the streets .
Lets see a little more of that . Open Dickies diner again to take more suggestions .
There are a lot of talented people here pick some brains. We need people here that have
money that are willing to take risks , whether it be new storefronts , Spas , retreats, etc.
Here is an idea , maybe I am behind the eight ball . Bring people here from the train
station on weekends , set up a tour and a welcome center , build more bed and breakfasts
Also Help our residents get to work !!
We need to get the loop bus here . If there
is one already make it more advertised. There are jobs in Newburgh and Poughkeepsie
We need to help our people get there. Bring home the bacon !! We need mass transit
People don't know where Marlboro is so we need to show them the way

Dear Ms. Lanzetta and Mr. Smith:
I would like to point out a few things to help
get us all get on the same page.
We have a local brand called "Meet Me in
Marlborough" Very positive, all inclusive, and
local. It is a good umbrella lets continue to
promote it.
Pick-your-own while being agriculture related, is
really ecotourism. Parks, self propelled water
raft as kayaks, canoes, paddle boats, row boats
etc are also part of ecotourism. Basically they
represent diversity in ecotourism. What do we
look for? Non-polluting, health, visually
attractive and active. Ironically one of the few
things everyone working on the Town Master plan
agreed on was that allowing a park with direct
access to the Hudson to escape the town's
ownership was the worst mistake made by the Town
this century. Let us not make the same mistake
twice.
Ecotourism
"Responsible travel to natural areas that
conserves the environment and improves the
well-being of local people." (TIES, 1990)
Being a squeaky wheel get attention but does not
get you anywhere. Progress is best made by a
well oiled wheels working together, moving in the
same direction. Who can really understand what a
squeaky wheel is saying?
We should be all ears even if that sounds corny.
We do not grow nuts here. We try to stay sane by
growing pears and there is an "ear" in ever pear.
What did one nut say to the other? Nothing they
are both nuts.
Pears speak in pairs.
Bottom line is dialogue is talking, listening,
debating, thinking, and reflecting.
What is going on about sewers? What is being
done? How much do they cost. What is the master
plan? Will they bring us commercial or high
density residential? How can I help. Can I
write my congressperson? Let us talk sewers even
if it a messy and smelly topic and not demand
them.
One of the earliest attempts to construct a
transatlantic cable failed because the two ships
arrived at the same point in the ocean only to
find the cables were twisted in different
directions. It is not enough to meet each other
half way. Rather than shout across the etheral
ocean lets talk.

Cindy,
Those towns that you and Al stop in with the
kayak launches probably put the horse in front of
the cart and had water and sewer and a thriving
town center before they invested in and developed
thier tourism. You show me a town that has a
thriving tourism and no water and sewer and I'll
show you a town with a stand alone major draw(
ie. Cooperstown) that doesnt need another reason
for people to stop. Investing in tourism without
the infrastructure base is like painting the
walls before you've got the roof on the house.
Face it, times change, this is not the same
Marlboro that John Pizzo grew up in, nor even the
one that I was raised in, the world is different
and unless we want to end up as the crud on the
bottom of futures shoe we need to get our heads
out of the past.
