Time of year again folks , Election time !! Please read the letter below
from my dear friend Chris Cerone. Chris has deep roots in this town
and truly cares about this community , Once again i ask you to please take
a moment out and read his letter and please pass it on to everyone in
your address book , Together we will make a difference in these troubled
Times
Dear Voter & Friend
I am writing today to ask for your support on Election Day, November 3,
2009. Our community is at a crossroads and your vote will ultimately
decide which direction we are to travel.
In the past two years, we have seen our economy all but collapse.
Countless have lost their jobs. Some have lost their homes. Even if
we're lucky enough to still have a decent income, what happens in our
community affects us all.
As you travel throughout our community, our neighborhoods are littered
with For Sale signs - a sure sign of more troubles ahead.
Our school and property taxes have risen and our home values have dropped.
Families who need to sell their homes to stave off foreclosure can't
because of a failing real estate market. Big government is involved in
just about every facet of our lives.
Friends, now is the time to act. Since leaving town office two years ago,
I have seen many initiatives that were started fall by the wayside.
Projects that would have moved our town forward and promoted our community
in a way that would have attracted business, helped build a commercial tax
base, and would help alleviate the residential tax burden we are all
feeling. Some of those projects were:
The Verizon Cell Tower that would have brought $17,000.00 in annual income
to the town.
The water tower project that would increase water pressure, water quality,
and better fire protection for both Marlboro and Milton.
The traffic signal project on Route 9W located at Young's Ave
(Elementary School) which was 100% funded by the DOT and would make driving
along 9W easier and safer for our residents.
Expansion of the sewer district up the 9W corridor to Kedem Winery, which
was more than 90% funded by private business and state grants and would
have made 9W from the Elementary School to Kedem shovel ready for new
businesses. Now Kedem is forced to go its own way and another opportunity
is lost.
Expansion of the sewer district in Milton which would increase the usage
from the current 30% and spread the costs more evenly to reduce the burden
on current users and homeowners.
The Environmentally Recognized Ginsberg Group project which would have
added over a $1,000,000.00 in tax base and paid for the much needed
Marlboro sewer plant upgraded at no cost to the taxpayers.
Sidewalk improvements in Marlboro & Milton which have been ignored beyond
the small addition of 150' of sidewalk in Milton.
The Rt. 9W reconstruction project which I initiated with a grant from
Senator Larkin 3 years ago and has been studied to death with inaction and
indecision.
These are just a few of the missed opportunities. Equally troubling are
the lack of foresight and responsible planning for the future.
Our current leadership has spent over $150,000.00 of taxpayer's monies
on designs and drawings for a New Town Hall and they are still no closer to
making a decision than we were two years ago. Now they are considering a
$5 Million Dollar debt for the town hall. Do we really need to spend $5
Million Dollars on a new Town hall?
It's about decisions like the future of our water. Our community has
its water resources dictated to us by surround communities. Instead of
putting more money into projects that continue to leave us at their mercy,
we need to take charge of our future and explore building our own water
supply system - one that we control for the benefit of our own community.
We have not one shovel ready project in our entire town that could take
advantage of the stimulus monies that surrounding towns have received.
We have a golden opportunity - the new state MTA tax is forcing
businesses in Orange and Dutchess County to look to Ulster for a more
cost-effective location (since Ulster is not in the MTA region). We will
market our community to professional businesses like doctors, lawyers,
engineering, technology, and small scale high tech manufacturing that are
located in surrounding counties and are being hit with the new tax that
adds $0.34 to every $1,000.00 in payroll they have.
Rest assured that Highland, Plattekill, and Gardner would welcome these
new businesses but we need to reverse the negative attitude towards new
business in Marlborough.
Moving a new business to Marlborough can be a matter of Dollars & Sense
- if we want them - and if we're ready.
It's not about personalities or about words or having someone to blame
- it's about leadership and good decisions and taking responsibility
for ourselves.
Now is the time to take action and cast your vote for a team that will
work for the interest of every resident and tax payer by bringing common
sense back to local government.
Our team will pursue every available grant and stimulus dollar to put
sewer and water in the ground along the 9W corridor.
Our team wants to extend the sewer district in the hamlet of Milton and up
to 9W so we can reduce costs for homeowners and be ready for future
opportunities.
Our team will be business friendly and not discourage good quality local
businesses from coming to Marlborough.
Our team is the team that will make the hard decisions. Not because we
want too, but because we have to. The Town of Marlborough spends over $6
million of your tax dollars a year and needs to be run with smart,
cost-effective business sense.
It's really up to you.
Do you think we should take action now and improve a tax base that will
promote a financially healthy community?
Do you think we should spend wisely and plan for the future?
Do you think we should encourage good quality businesses to locate in our
town?
If you do, then please VOTE on Election Day for the Team that will make a
positive difference for you and your family:
Chris Cerone for Supervisor
Rick Affuso & Dr. Anthony Pascale for Town Council
Steve Osborn - Deputy Supervisor
Sincerely,
Chris Cerone
PS. I know this is a very long letter but there are just so many issues
facing our town that we must deal with. Please if you feel the same way
and would like to be able afford to live here , pass this email on to everyone
in your address book. Thank you for taking the time to
read this and to consider what the future of our community will be and
please vote on Election Day!
